Description

Chef Koochooloo is a Silicon Valley based EdTech funded by the National Science Foundation and teaches kids STEM education and social responsibility through cooking. Our mobile and web applications are live on ios and rolled out in 30 various Silicon Valley schools.

About the Internship: Design of STEAM related lesson plans, differentiated by grade level, through easy and healthy recipes, geared to families of Latin-American descent with 1. strong focus on healthy eating, 2. positive cultural identity, and a 3. big focus on strengthening family ties through cooking.

Construction of test items: analysis of content to be taught, collection of resources used in teaching, analysis of linguistic development of students, techniques for developing and evaluating audiolingual, reading, and writing skills. You will also have hours in the field delivering the lessons you have created and measuring the effectiveness of your curriculum.

The candidate who would most benefit from the experience will have:
A Bachelor degree in the field of education
Currently in the process of obtaining a graduate degree in education, or curriculum development in the fields of STEAM, Social Emotional Learning, and Language Arts
A passion for cooking and writing
Excellent research and writing skills
Knowledge of or experience with website production and blogging
Video editing and filming skills
Deep understanding of social media

Terms: 6-month – 12 months, internship, part time or full time. The intern will need to have access to their own computer, a smart mobile device with an Internet connection.

The College of Education at Winthrop University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Educational Studies (full-time, 10.5-month tenure-track appointment). The desired candidate is an innovative, visionary leader for a department that serves approximately 300 undergraduate majors and 150 graduate students. The undergraduate programs housed in the department include Human Development and Family Studies, Middle Level Education, and Special Education. At the graduate level the department houses Counseling and Development, Educational Leadership, Learning Design and Technology, and Special Education Intervention.

Major Responsibilities:
• Provide effective academic leadership and developmental coaching to faculty and students in the department.
• Recruit and evaluate faculty and staff.
• Invest in and support faculty and staff professional growth.
• Manage departmental activities and programs while promoting innovation.
• Coordinate assessment and accreditation efforts of all programs areas.
• Supervise fiscal and physical operations of the department.
• Facilitate student recruitment, retention, and advising programs for majors.

Required Qualifications:
• Doctorate in a field closely related to one of the department’s programs or core areas.

• Knowledge of and experience with curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
• A minimum of three years successful work experience in a discipline represented by the department.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at the departmental, college, university, public school, and agency levels.
• Commitment to distributive leadership with departmental faculty and staff.
• Proven success working in a team-oriented environment.

Employment Conditions: A full-time, 10.5-month tenure-track position

The Dean serves as the chief academic officer and administrative leader of the School of Education & Professional Studies (SEPS) at Central Connecticut State University. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He or she works with the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, and with SEPS faculty, administrative staff, and students in ensuring the SEPS programs meet high standards of academic excellence.

The School of Education & Professional Studies offers bachelors’, masters’, and doctoral degree and certificate programs. SEPS operates with seven academic departments: (1) Counselor Education & Family Therapy; (2) Educational Leadership, Policy & Instructional Technology; (3) Literacy, Elementary & Early Childhood Education; (4) Nursing; (5) Physical Education & Human Performance; (6) Social Work; and (7) Special Education & Interventions. Fifteen program accreditations are maintained.

The Dean also oversees the SEPS Advising Center, Office of School and Community Partnerships, Central Teacher Education Network, Teacher Leader Fellowship Program, and Center of Excellence for Social & Emotional Learning. The Dean of SEPS serves as the lead dean for teacher education at CCSU collaborating with the Dean of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences and the Dean of Engineering, Science, and Technology.

The Dean of SEPS supervises the following positions: Associate Dean, Assistant Dean for Accreditation & Partnerships, Assistant Dean for Professional Programs/ Certification Officer, Administrative Assistant, Secretary, and the chairs of the seven academic departments. SEPS employs 76 full-time faculty members and as of Fall serves 2,448 headcount students, 1,361 undergraduates and 1,087 graduate students. Responsibilities include:

Academic Leadership:

Works with the SEPS faculty in establishing the vision, mission, and strategic directions for the programs and units housed in the school.
Ensures compliance with the standards of the New England Commission of Higher Education and the 15 accrediting bodies with which SEPS academic programs are affiliated.
Develops and maintains partnerships with K-12 school districts and takes a leadership role in connecting with the State Department of Education.
Promotes interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary opportunities.
Ensures SEPS supports the teaching, research, and service, and community engagement of the school and the university.
Leads SEPS in supporting university-wide student recruitment and retention activities of academic affairs, enrollment management, and student affairs.
Reviews and resolves students’ academic concerns.
Encourages and supports development of grant proposals and ensures appropriate administration of grants awarded.
Accountable for meeting enrollment goals established through university-planning processes.
Personnel:

Supervises associate dean, assistant deans, staff, chairs, and faculty in SEPS.
Ensures appropriate search processes are completed prior to recommending specific candidates for full-time faculty positions to the provost and president. Oversees the hiring of part-time faculty.
Manages the selection, development and placement of faculty in SEPS. Directs and leads chairs regarding academic standards, required faculty qualifications, allocation of faculty to program offerings, and ensuring effective use of faculty within budget constraints.
Ensures with chairs faculty workload assignments meet the needs of CCSU students, support of the CCSU mission, and conform to the collective bargaining agreement between the CSCU and the AAUP.
Evaluates the performance of SEPS full-time faculty consistent with the agreement between the CSCU and the AAUP.
Ensures the completion of the annual performance-evaluation processes for all classifications of non-AAUP CCSU employees.
Budget & Facilities:

Oversees SEPS budget planning and expenditures.
Oversees the activities, operations, and daily maintenance of labs and specialized classrooms in SEPS, ensuring the facilities support the instructional and research needs of SEPS students and faculty.
Academic Policy:

Ensures the establishment and periodic revision of a written description of an internal SEPS governance system. Ensures compliance with guidelines, process, and procedures.
Participates in the development of university-wide academic policy through the Council of Deans.
Curriculum and Program Development and Delivery:

Ensures that the development of new programs and courses plus the revision of existing programs and courses are consistent with the strategic directions of the university.
Manages course offerings in each department of the school. Reviews course enrollments, timing of course offerings, faculty teaching loads, and appropriateness of courses and schedules for degree-program objectives.
Works with faculty to ensure that program-review processes assess the ability of the SEPS academic programs to meet their specified mission and goals.

I am conducting research about social justice and democracy in education, and, as a NNER member, you may be interested in being a part of the study, which examines educators’ and pre-service educators’ perspectives on the role of education in preparing students to live in and promote a social and political democracy as well as the barriers or limitations to this work.

If you agree to participate, you will fill out the following online survey which will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

The survey asks you to share information about your personal background and academic and work experiences.  You are given the option to skip any items for which you might feel discomfort answering.

If at any time, you do not want to continue taking the survey, you may exit the survey.  I will protect your confidentiality by removing identifying data connected with materials submitted and then coded for anonymity, and participants will not be identified in any reports on the research.  Your participation in this research is voluntary.

The NNER Mission

The National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER) leads by example as it strives to improve simultaneously the quality of education for thoughtful participation in a democracy and the quality of the preparation of educators. The NNER works through partnerships among P-12 schools, institutions of higher education, and communities. Four-Part Mission Members of the Network agree on a four-part mission to advance Education in Democracy, which is as follows:

  • Provide access to knowledge for all children (“equity and excellence”);
  • Educate the young for thoughtful participation in a social and political democracy (“enculturation”);
  • Base teaching on knowledge of the subjects taught, established principles of learning, and sensitivity to the unique potential of learners (“nurturing pedagogy”); and
  • Take responsibility for improving the conditions for learning in P-12 schools, institutions of higher education and communities. (“stewardship”).
